This page is the site's Colophon — an honest record of its own making. The timeline is derived, not narrated: it is a pure fold over this project's git history, one entry per working session. The reasons are authored by hand, and each one is pinned to the record beneath it.

The reasons, authored and pinned

Why each session did what it did — written by hand, each pinned to a session in the record. Where the record shows the what but not the why, the entry says so rather than inventing one.

  1. 09.0024 2026-09-09

    Why: The operator ruled the six §6 decisions; naming the load-bearing ones as invariants (each with a decidable check where one exists) fixes them as laws, not preferences.

    Rejected: A new invariant engine — reused the golden apps' invariant-contract jig instead (Constraint: modify regulation, not tools).

    Learned: The honesty posture only holds if it is a checkable floor, not a slogan.

    Why: Money as floats loses cents; an order without an append-only proof-chain cannot be trusted or looked up later. Both are invariants (INV-5/6), so both got a test, not a promise.

    Rejected: A new commerce engine — grafted the byte-verified butcher store spine (SWX-confirmed present).

    Learned: The spine is verified PRESENT, not yet verified FIT for a stocking-plus-prompt order — the heaviest open risk on the line.

    Why: A single narrow-waist syscall is the whole security posture; the lint proves the waist exists rather than asserting it.

    Learned: The seam holds under the deploy discipline (runtime-first -> static -> post-deploy-check; a 401 on an un-granted request is HEALTHY).

    Why: A deploy that can skip a stage can ship a broken site; a tick conductor makes stage-order a decidable, enforced sequence.

    Learned: The conductor reuses tick_escapement.verify() as its own guard — the guard and the runner share one oracle.

    Why: The shell is the one place the reveal mechanic lives, so every page inherits it; deferring the two operator calls to CSS vars lets the shell ship without pre-empting a reserved decision.

    Rejected: Hard-committing a typeface or a reveal depth — both are the operator's to draw.

    Learned: A shell that defers the reserved calls structurally (CSS vars) is buildable now; a shell that guessed them would have to be unwound.

    Why: The order-chain existed but had no buyer-facing FACE; the vessels place the pages so the operator can write his convictions inline once live; one chrome oracle beats two near-identical lints (Constraint).

    Rejected: Authoring the operator-reserved conviction prose — the emptiness of those slots is the deliverable.

    Learned: Vessel-built is not page-done-done; and coining a tool name without a prior-art check cost a rename (footer_lint collided).

    Why: The armed Step was the Pull; and the best forward Block was a determinism-first, reuse-heavy graft that closes an F2 target rather than a flashy arc that would collide with the reserved §6 calls.

    Rejected: The reveal skin, the type-specimen, and /gifts — all collide with an operator-reserved decision while I held the Conn.

    Learned: The Making's redact control caught full callsigns in the commit subjects and failed the build closed — the bare DD.HHMM anchor is the public form, the full callsign is a private signature.
